£6000 Balance Transfer

£6000 Balance Transfer

Does a 6000 credit card limit allow you to make a £6000 balance transfer? We see many UK card customers looking for information, about making a balance transfer with a 6k credit card limit.

One of the most common queries that we see, is which UK credit cards are the most suitable cards for a 6000 credit card limit?

Many UK card customers will be able to make smaller balance transfers within their existing credit limit. A credit card with a £2000 limit will allow most small balance transfers to go through, for example.

However, a £6000 balance transfer is more likely to be classified as a larger balance transfer, by most of the credit card companies. This size of balance transfer will require the customer to have a larger than average credit limit.

Credit Card 6000 Limit

A credit card 6000 limit allows you to spend up to £6000 on your credit card. This could be one large purchase, or multiple smaller purchases. Alternatively, a credit card with a £6000 limit can allow you to make a large balance transfer, from one card to another.

Are you looking to make a £6000 balance transfer to a new 0% credit card?

If so then, you actually need to be approved for a new credit card, with a limit that is higher than a £6,000 credit card limit. This because most UK balance transfer credit cards only allow a balance transfer to be made for, at most, 90% to 95% of your available credit limit.

To illustrate this with an example, consider the following:-

  • Mr Smith would like to make a £6000 transfer from his existing card
  • So, he would need a credit limit of at least £6,670 for those cards with a 90% transfer limit
  • Or he would need a limit of at least £6,325, for those cards with the more common 95% transfer limit

A 6000 credit card limit on your new card, would only allow a balance transfer of, a maximum £5700. The main reason the UK credit card issuers have a transfer limit, is to allow for the balance transfer fee. This fee needs to be paid, without the customer going over and above their given credit limit.

Credit Card With £6000 Limit

Before the banking crisis started, back in 2008, getting a new credit card with a £6,000 limit was quite common. However, in recent years, all of the UK credit card companies have tended to issue new credit cards with lower initial credit limits.

A £6000 balance transfer is more likely to be available to UK credit card customers who have a very good credit rating. These customers will have no recent history of bad debts, or any missed payments. They will also have a low level of other credit card debt or loans, in relation to their overall income levels.

All of the following featured credit cards do tend to be more generous with their initial credit limits. As a result, they are likely to be suitable for customers looking for a credit card 6000 limit.

£6000 Credit Card Limit

What do you do if your new 0% balance transfer credit card does not have a credit card limit sufficient for a £6000 balance transfer? In this case, it is important that you transfer what you can, even with the lower limit.

Rejecting the new card, and then immediately applying again for another card, is not a good idea. This may lead to your new credit card application being denied. There is no guarantee that your next application would give you a £7000 credit card limit, for example.

This is because repeated applications in a short period of time, may make you look to the credit card companies, as desperate for credit. As a result, you are unlikely to get a 6k credit card limit. In fact, these repeated applications are more likely to lead to you being rejected for any new UK credit card.
