Many UK credit card customers are unsure which new 0% cards will allow a Halifax credit card balance transfer. We see a number of questions every month on this topic, including all of these common questions:-
- Can you balance transfer from Halifax to MBNA?
- Can you transfer from Halifax to HSBC balance transfer credit card?
- Transfer from Halifax to Barclaycard credit card?
- Can you transfer from Halifax to Tesco?
- Can I transfer from Halifax to Nationwide 0 balance transfer card?
Many customers will be aware that Lloyds Banking Group now own the Halifax. However, did you know that Lloyds also now owns MBNA, in the UK. Lloyds, Halifax and MBNA all provide a range of different credit cards to their banking customers. Many of these credit cards do come with 0% introductory offers.
MBNA Halifax
With Lloyds now owning Halifax and MBNA, can you balance transfer from Halifax to MBNA for example?
The Halifax, in common with all the other UK credit card companies, do not allow balance transfers to be made between credit cards which are issued by the same company.
Lloyds, Halifax and MBNA credit cards are all ultimately owned by Lloyds Banking Group. However, the actual card issuers are currently different. As a result, balance transfers are currently allowed between the three different brands.
However, this is very likely to change over time. We would expect that an interest free balance transfer will not be permitted between the different Lloyds brands, in the near future.

Lloyds Banking Group took over HBOS, the owner of Halifax as a result of the banking crisis of 2008. Lloyds then completed the purchase of MBNA in December 2016 when Bank of America decided to exit the UK credit card market.
Over the following years, Lloyds have reduced the number of different 0% credit cards that were previously offered across the three different brands.
