Balance Transfer MBNA

Many credit card customers are not always aware that MBNA, like all of the other UK credit card issuers, do not allow balance transfers to be made from one credit card to another, when both of the cards are issued by the same company.

MBNA were until recently, one of the largest issuers of credit cards in the UK, in terms of the range of credit cards they offered UK customers.

They have, in past years, issued a large numbers of credit cards for other well known brands. MBNA used to issue many cards for football clubs, rugby clubs, charities and airlines, as well as other organisations in the UK. MBNA were also for many years the issuer behind the range of Virgin credit cards.

Many of these different brand names promoted the cards extensively under their own brand name. As a result, many customers may not have been aware of who the underlying credit card company actually was. Without reading the small print of your card agreement, finding out who the actual credit card issuer is, could often be difficult.

MBNA Balance Transfer to Lloyds

Lloyds Banking Group are now the new owners of the MBNA brand in the UK. Lloyds Banking Group completed the takeover of MBNA Europe back in June 2017. The previous owner of MBNA before that date was Bank of America, who have now decided to withdraw from the UK credit card market.

As a result of the takeover, this now means that all of the current Halifax, Bank of Scotland, Lloyds and MBNA 0% transfer credit cards, are now all issued by the same ultimate owner.

Balance transfers are, at the time of writing, currently allowed between some of these different brands. However, it is, more than likely, only a matter of time, before balance transfers between any of the different Lloyds Banking Group brands are no longer allowed.
