Mastercard To Mastercard Transfer?

Can UK credit card customers make a Mastercard to Mastercard transfer? Are there any restrictions on a MasterCard to Mastercard balance transfer?

A Mastercard to Mastercard transfer occurs, when a balance transfer takes place between two different Mastercard credit cards.

MasterCard To MasterCard Transfer

MasterCard is a worldwide company that provides the payment technology and standards that enable commerce all around the world. At Mastercard they provide the connections between the credit card companies, the merchants who accept credit cards, and the cardholders.

The Mastercard payment network gives retailers, hotels and restaurants a method to accept, and get payment from a customer using a credit card.

Mastercard To Mastercard Balance Transfer?

Can you balance transfer from Mastercard to Mastercard?

Yes, you can. There is no restriction as such, in making a Mastercard to Mastercard transfer. However, when a customer is looking to transfer a balance from one Mastercard to another, there is one important factor they need to be aware of.

All of the UK credit card companies do not allow balance transfers to be made, when both of the cards involved are issued by the same card company.

You cannot, for example, transfer from one M&S balance transfer credit card to another M&S credit card. This restriction applies if both cards are MasterCard. It also applies even if one card is a Visa card, and the other card is a MasterCard.

Mastercard Balance Transfer

Most of the currently available balance transfer credit cards, in the UK, are issued as MasterCard balance transfer cards. A much smaller number of UK credit cards are Visa balance transfer cards, using the Visa payment network.

The credit card companies will generally have a relationship with either Mastercard, or Visa. As a result all of their credit cards are likely to be issued using their chosen payment network.

Mastercard To Visa Balance Transfer?

As can be seen above, you can make a Mastercard to Mastercard transfer. However, what about a Mastercard to Visa transfer? Is this possible in the UK?

A Mastercard to Visa balance transfer is where a customer makes a balance transfer from a credit card with the Mastercard branding to another credit card carrying the Visa brand.

You can also make this type of balance transfer within the UK credit card market. Any Mastercard to Visa balance transfer is subject to the same condition as a Mastercard to Mastercard transfer. The two credit cards involved in the balance transfer must be from different credit card issuers.
