What Is The Maximum Balance Transfer Amount?

What is the maximum balance transfer amount?

Here at Balance Transfer Expert, over recent months, this is a question that we have seen more and more often.

The maximum balance transfer amount that you can transfer from one credit card to another credit card, by way of a balance transfer, does vary from customer to customer.

Maximum Balance Transfer Amount

This is because the maximum balance transfer amount is dependant on the following two factors :-

  • The credit limit that you have been given by the credit card company that you are looking to transfer the balance to
  • The percentage limit that the credit card company allows customers to use for balance transfers

This maximum balance transfer amount can best be explained by way of the following example:-

  •  You have a £4,000 credit limit allocated to you on a new balance transfer credit card
  •  The credit card company allows you to make a balance transfer of up to 95% of the credit limit
  • Then the maximum balance transfer amount, in this example is 95% of £4,000, which equals £3,800* (*Assuming that you have not already used up any of your available credit limit)

What Is The Maximum Balance Transfer Amount?

Many of the UK card companies allow you to make a balance transfer of up to 95% of your credit limit. A small number of card companies do however only allow a balance transfer of up to 90% of your credit limit.

The following UK credit cards, traditionally are more likely to offer larger credit limits. These featured large balance transfer credit cards are more suitable for customers looking to balance transfer the maximum amount :-

The reason that the credit card companies do set a percentage limit on how much of the credit limit you can use for a balance transfer, is to allow for the balance transfer fee to be paid without breaching your existing credit limit.

The credit card issuers are also usually keen to see customers have the ability to actually make purchases using the card.
